Box Office: 01273 647100 Komedia Brighton SetlistGibson Blues Review by BrynAfter flights and trains, my second DC gig in two nights. When you are looking forward to something so much it can often disappoint, Vini, Bruce & Keir made sure that didn't happen. To be honest, I feel unable to comment on Komedia as a venue as I was sat right at the front and for me that was the place to be. It felt like DC live in your living room and I wasn't moving to check crowd reaction or acoustics. Vini was feeling a little under the weather though this didn't affect his performance, that new Jimmy Page Les Paul certainly belts it out. Bruce was as 'up for it' as ever and Keir doing the quiet man routine that he does so well. Without a doubt, The Durutti Column live have definitely got louder and they don't suffer for it. For me it was a stunning concert musically. It felt raucous in places, yet still had that fragile beauty that stops you in your tracks and makes your eyes well up. (Mine) The two new tracks for me were notable for their lyrics. They hit me like a train the night before and did so again tonight. It is perhaps a bit too easy to overlook how good a lyricist Vini is, impossible with these songs. The first encore 'Revolver' now nears perfection and fortunately unlike at Ronnie Scotts we got a second. A few people shouted out 'The missing Boy' and Vini agreed that this was a good idea. I must admit, that it was one of the best renditions I have ever heard. It was Vini in full flow and his genius there for all to see. - - Thanks to Bryn Morse for the review, setlist details and excellent photos. |
