Saturday 22 October The Met Review (by Yousef Sheikh)It was a great gig, band on alternately playful and potent form. Vini had a brand spanking new Les Paul which he seemed to take great delight in trying out. No real surprises on the set list, which was roughly: a loose 'blues jam' to showcase the new guitar, Sketch for Summer, Otis, Salford Harmonics [actually 'Untitled for You'], Jacqueline, Woman, the new 'Girlfriend' one as played on the recentish radio sessions, Tomorrow, Beggar, Missing Boy, Requiem for Mother. Encore: Vini solo doing some noodling-Albatross-little bit of Stairway to Heaven then Bruce and Kier back for Revolver. Not sure what happened to the new material but this was still an excellent gig, Vini clearly enjoying himself and making the most of his new purchase as well as the trusty Strat. The sound was a bit ropey at times, particularly a nasty crackle that kept coming through the PA but the performance more than made up for any technical shortcomings. If I had the time and money, I'd certainly be trying to catch another show or two... Setlist'Blues jam' - - Thanks to Yousef for letting me use his review. |
