ReviewUnderworld in Camden is quite accurately named because it is under The World's End pub in Camden Town (which itself is accurately named because the main part of it is like some kind of living hell on earth and it boasts what may be the worst toilets in the world!). The bill of Shadowplayers (which is playing to respectful quiet as we enter), Kevin Hewick and Section 25 draws a respectable crowd of around 100. The film, which has been shown at many of Section 25's gigs this year still proves to be illuminating. However, due to the tight time constraints imposed by the venue, which valmorifies into a thrash metal club at 11:00, Kevin Hewick had to come on stage immediately the film finished and to stony silence. Being the pro that he his, Kev takes it all in his stride and launches straight into one of his "mid-bass, middle-aged dirges". Everyone warms to Kevin during his 30-min set which includes Bad Samantha, Americanta and Haystack. He also makes the best exit of the nite by leaving us whilst still thrashing his detuned acoustic guitar to within an inch of its life. Section 25 are playing London for the first time in a very long time. And they seem very happy to be here. Larry looks relaxed on stage and exchanges good-natured banter with the audience. The band is extremely tight with Vin's superhuman drumming at its core. The setlist hits many moods with a few more synthesiser-tinged numbers than earlier in the year (Roger feeds some of backing tracks into the mix via a small mp3 player). A triumphant Looking From A Hilltop brings things to a close. Well, almost. Without leaving they launch into No Love Lost before one more encore including Shadowplay and then they are gone.
