Fac 51 The Hacienda > History > Installation by David Mach |
|
In 1986, Factory Records and New Order commissioned artist David Mach, who famously once built a submarine out of car tyres on London's South Bank, to create an installation in the Hacienda. It consisted of thousands of 12" singles of 'Confusion' by New Order (because Factory had over-ordered stock after Blue Monday had sold shedloads) stacked around some of the central steel pillars. Admission to the installation was by usual admission to the club which in those days was only Thursday to Saturday, 9pm to 2am except for the preview which was held at the genteel hour of 4.30pm before the club night on Thursday 4 December. A limited edition poster (9" x 24") and a leaflet (4" x 11.75") also exist.
